What Is Manliness, Anyway?

Launching the redesign of the Art of Manliness has gotten me thinking about our history, and how my understanding of manliness has evolved, deepened, and changed over that nearly two-decade-long span. The idea for the Art of Manliness came to me in a Borders (RIP) bookstore. As I browsed their selection of men’s magazines, I […] This article was originally published on The Art of Manliness.

Movie Tuesday: ‘Spider-Man’ Caps Record-Breaking Summer With Another Win

We’ve just closed the books on the summer box-office season—a season that, according to Hollywood’s curious calendar, runs from May 1 through Labor Day. And my, what a season it was. Movies raked in a record-breaking $4.76 billion over the 130-day summer frame, nosing past the old record of $4.755 million set in 2013. Granted, […] The post Movie Tuesday: ‘Spider-Man’ Caps Record-Breaking Summer With Another Win appeared first on Plugged In.

From ‘Thou Shalt’ to ‘Once Upon a Time’

In Luke 10:25–37, a lawyer approaches Jesus with a question: “Teacher … what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answers his interrogator with a question of his own: “What is written in the Law? … How do you read it?” The lawyer answers by restating the twin commandments to love God and neighbor Read more... 3 Reasons to Take Your Kids to Church

Though my kids are all grown now, I well remember the challenges of getting all five of them ready for church, then delivering them to the pew relatively on time and relatively well-behaved. It wasn’t easy. Was it worth it? You bet it was. To enable them to hear and see the gospel. While all Christian families should be pouring the gospel into their kids from infancy and every single day beyond, it is vital for your kids to hear the gospel message from the lips of other people and to see it at work in their lives. Proclaiming salvation in Christ should be a parent’s
