Jackson's trilogy is still the benchmark for epic filmmaking. The extended editions add hours of material that improve every film, not just pad them.
Stream them if you can find them. But if you're the kind of person who watches things more than once, the physical extended editions are worth it. The behind-the-scenes content alone is worth the shelf space.
