Iran launches missiles at U.S. base in Jordan

Iran launched multiple ballistic missiles toward a U.S. military base in Jordan on Tuesday in what U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) described as an "attempted surprise attack." All of the missiles were intercepted, CENTCOM said in a statement. Why it matters: This marks Iran's first ballistic missile attack against a U.S. base in the region since President Trump paused strikes against Iran last Friday to give diplomacy another chance. The attack threatens to unravel the fragile pause and could force Trump to decide whether to resume military action against Iran. State of play: CENTCOM said forces from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched the missiles at 5:45 p.m. ET. "U.S. forces remain vigilant and at a high state of readiness," the command said. The big picture: Iran targeted the same country where two U.S. service members were killed in a missile and drone barrage earlier this month, prompting Trump to intensify his 13-night campaign of strikes. The US is banning foreign robots

The Chinese robot maker, Unitree, will likely be impacted by the ban. | Bloomberg via Getty Images The US government is targeting China with a new import ban on "advanced robotic devices" and power inverters made in foreign countries, as reported earlier by Reuters. In an announcement on Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission says the ban will include "mobile" robots, such as humanoid and quadruped models - but it is not limited to robots that walk around. Though the FCC says the move isn't targeted at a specific country, it will have a major impact on China as the country ramps up efforts to produce humanoid robots, some of which we've seen in viral videos stumbling to Michael Jackson, partaking in MMA fights, and even appearing … Read the full story at The Verge.

iOS 27: All the New Phone and FaceTime Features

The Phone and FaceTime apps didn't get as many new features as some of Apple's other apps, but there are a handful of capabilities that add utility and convenience. Phone App The Phone app has one major update, and that's Call Context. When you call a company, the Phone app can surface relevant information from the Mail app. If you call an airline, it might show your confirmation code for an upcoming flight, or your reservation code if you're calling a hotel. It doesn't listen to what you're saying, but instead looks at the number you're calling and links it to details in the Mail app. Apple Intelligence feature that runs entirely on-device, and it requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. It also works when you make a phone call from your iPad or Mac. FaceTime ‌FaceTime‌ has a couple of new features, but the biggest is Dual Capture. On the iPhone 17 models and the iPhone Air, you can use the front and back cameras at the same time while on a ‌FaceTime‌ call. The person

Will the Sacramento Kings Ever Become a Free Agent Destination?

The 2026 NBA free agency cycle kicked off on June 30. Since that date, the Sacramento Kings have re-signed no free agents. They waived DeMar DeRozan (and may potentially stretch his contract) and Isaiah Stevens, and signed two players, Jonathan Mogbo and Adam Flagler, to two-way contracts. Other than those small moves, the Kings have […] The post Will the Sacramento Kings Ever Become a Free Agent Destination? appeared first on The Lead.

The union drive at the Wikimedia Foundation is expanding

In June, UK staff at the nonprofit that runs Wikipedia became the first to announce their intentions to form a union. Now, US-based employees at the Wikimedia Foundation are joining the union drive, but management at the nonprofit have declined to voluntarily recognize their union. "While the Wikimedia Foundation touts to the public that they plan to take a neutral stance in our organizing efforts, they have already proven that not to be the case behind the scenes," a press release sent by Communications Workers of America, with which Wiki Workers United is affiliated, reads in part. "When the Foundation rejected our request for voluntary r … Read the full story at The Verge.

How the Supreme Court deepened uncertainty over Temporary Protected Status

Legal protections for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians in the U.S. have ended after the Supreme Court upheld the termination of their Temporary Protected Status, a ruling that could reshape the program's future. The big picture: The justices limited courts' ability to review Homeland Security's TPS decisions — making challenges harder and leaving hundreds of thousands of people at risk of losing legal status, work authorization and protection from deportation. Established in 1990, TPS protects nationals of designated countries fleeing extraordinary circumstances from deportation. "The ripple effects of this are going to be really big" and "really impactful for not only the TPS holders themselves, but for everyone in their communities," says Esther Sung, the Justice Action Center's legal director. State of play: The Trump administration has moved to end TPS for nationals of more than a dozen countries — sparking legal challenges scrambled by the high court's decision. At
