What Is Manliness, Anyway?

Launching the redesign of the Art of Manliness has gotten me thinking about our history, and how my understanding of manliness has evolved, deepened, and changed over that nearly two-decade-long span. The idea for the Art of Manliness came to me in a Borders (RIP) bookstore. As I browsed their selection of men’s magazines, I […] This article was originally published on The Art of Manliness.

Record diesel prices stoke food inflation, transportation costs

The record price of diesel threatens to stoke inflation at a time when consumers are already price-sensitive and businesses are reeling from higher costs due to trade tensions. Why it matters: Diesel is a key cost throughout the supply chain, meaning soaring prices could eventually show up in what consumers pay for everything from groceries to household goods. Driving the news: The national average price of a gallon of diesel topped $6 for the first time ever, AAA said Friday, Axios' Ben Berkowitz reports. That's up 60% from a year earlier. Between the lines: Food prices could be among the first places consumers feel the ripple effects, executives said this week. At grocery chain Kroger, which has been trying to keep a lid on prices: "I would expect that the pressure is actually going to mount," CEO Greg Foran said Friday on an earnings call. At pork producer Smithfield Foods: "That impact is beginning to flow through in the second half of the year," CFO Mark Hall said Thursday. A

Aspens Game Review

Aspens is a two-player game of arboreal expansion and domination. Each player is given a bag of trees. On a player’s turn, they will roll the game’s two dice to determine the limitations of their actions. One die controls how many trees each of the players receive from their bags, and the other controls in which direction they are able to expand their holdings. On their turn, a player may expand outwards (filling in more spaces with their own trees), bolster their current holdings (increasing their odds of receiving new trees when the dice are rolled), or some mixture of both. Their goal is to get as many of those trees onto the playing field as they can so that when final calculations are performed at the end of the game, they’ll occupy more real estate than their opponent and thereby win the game. This, of course, is an oversimplification of the game (although, as you’ll soon see, not much of one). If you’re just interested in what I think about the game, feel free to skip ahead to t

When you open the newly-updated Mario Kart 8... The post Mario Kart World isn’t Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s replacement – here’s why appeared first on Nintendo Everything.
