How Super Mario Sunshine still delights (and frustrates) to this day

I first played Super Mario Sunshine many years ago as a kid via the Wii’s backward compatibility. I was so young, actually, that I didn’t even know I needed a memory card to be able to save! As you might expect, Super Mario Sunshine humbled past me beyond belief. The game is well-known for its difficulty relative to other 3D... Why is Blizzard still announcing games years ahead of release? 'We want to convey confidence in some of our biggest bets coming forward'

Maybe it's the fact it sounds like a year from the opening crawl of a sci-fi movie, but 2030 sure feels a long way off.

OpenAI delaying IPO amid AI safety concerns, Sam Altman says

OpenAI will not go public this year given all the safety work it needs to do, CEO Sam Altman said in a Fortune interview released Saturday. Why it matters: Altman's comments come as fears over doomsday AI scenarios have ramped up since an Anthropic employee resigned and issued a dire warning about AI's capabilities. What they're saying: "Right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public," Altman said. "I would say not 2026, yeah. We got a lot of stuff to do." The intrigue: The market expected blockbuster IPOs from both OpenAI and Anthropic this year. Altman's move puts the ball squarely in Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's court — especially given Amodei's warning Saturday that AI development needs to be slowed. Editor's note: This is a breaking news story and will be updated with more information.

Apple Says iPhone 18 Pro Max Sold in U.S. Differs in One Way

As noted by Nicolas Lellouche, who writes for the French tech website Numerama, Apple has updated its tech specs pages for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max to clarify which models are equipped with its new C2 cellular modem and where. Apple now says the iPhone 18 Pro has a C2 modem worldwide, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max uses the chip in every country except for the U.S. a tipster known as @itspdfu, who has been digging through Apple's software updates in recent weeks, iOS 27 code reveals that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is equipped with a Qualcomm modem instead of the C2 chip in the U.S. announced that it would supply Apple with smartphone modems through 2026, so perhaps Apple is equipping the U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max with a Qualcomm modem in order to honor this agreement in a minimum way. Apple's C2 modem supports ultra-fast mmWave 5G in the U.S., unlike its previous-generation C1 and C1X modems. Qualcomm modems in the iPhone 12 and newer already supported

OpenAI’s rogue AI tried to hack another company in May

In May, hundreds of malicious and spam packages were uploaded to RubyGems, causing a serious disruption for the host. Now independent researchers have said that a swarm of OpenAI agents were responsible for the attack. Not only that, but the AI tried to steal users' API keys. At the time, RubyGems described it as a "major malicious attack" and shut down signups for four days as it tried to mitigate the damage and collect data. Researchers said that the contents of the packages that brought RubyGems to its knees were clearly authored by an LLM, and that the agents submitting those packages self-identified as being from OpenAI. They said the … Read the full story at The Verge.
